Valentine’s Day is when you use leftover candy canes

February 15, 2010

Years ago, I heard of this trick for using leftover candy canes. I seem to remember trying it once without much luck, but it went much better this year. All you have to do is arrange the miniature canes in heart-shaped pairs on a silicone baking mat and put them in a 275-300°F oven. In about ten minutes, they’ll soften, and you can squish the ends together to seal the hearts. If they’re not quite ready, stick them back in for a few more minutes. I’ve heard that at about 350°, you can actually melt them into solid, flat hearts. Let me know if you try that and it works.
