Costume photo update

August 27, 2007

I’ve been working hard trying to get this costume done before Thursday. Here’s what’s left:

  • Poke holes for right armor flap
  • Shoulder armor (pretty much everything–all I’ve done is cut out the base shape)
  • Sew on loop to hold sword
  • Attach a little more trim to coat (handsewing)
  • Sew lining into coat

OK, it sounds like a lot when I say it that way. Yikes. But I did snap some progress shots to post.

Back and sleeve of the coat:

Belt and armor flaps:

Last unpainted Sculpey pieces. Most are for the gauntlets*, and the long ones are for the shoulders.

*Gauntlet – is that the right word when it only covers the forearm without a glove part? Would bracer or vambrace be more correct?

Hey, saw your post on the yahoogroups. This is looking really good! =) I don’t know what a vambrace is, but I think the term gauntlet would be more correct than bracer. Gauntlets are the term used for marching-band-type-uniforms with the folded pieces that go over the forearm, but look like large cuffs. Bracers, I think, are to strengthen the arm, rather than decoration. =)
